Proper plastic and biodegradable waste management ensures that the effects of climate change are reduced . Our plastic and bio waste management business that employs women significantly contributes to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 13, Climate Action, by promoting environmental sustainability and gender equality. Through effective waste management practices, it reduces greenhouse gas emissions and mitigates climate change impacts. Moreover, by empowering women through employment opportunities, it fosters social and economic resilience, leading to more sustainable communities. This holistic approach addresses both environmental and social dimensions of sustainability, aligning with the goals of SDG 13.
Enough plastic is thrown away each year to circle the earth 4 times. In Uganda alone of the over 3,000,000 tons of waste generated each year, only eight per cent is recycled. The rest ends up in the environment causing pollution. Non-biodegradable waste such as plastics and glass worsen the situation as they do not rot. Proper waste management contributes to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by reducing exposure to hazardous materials, preventing disease spread, and ensuring cleaner environments. It minimizes pollution, improves sanitation, and supports healthier communities, ultimately enhancing overall health outcomes and quality of life.
We employ women to repurpose waste. By employing women, we advance SDG 5(Gender Equality) hence promoting gender equality. It empowers women economically, provides job opportunities, and fosters leadership roles. This reduces gender disparities, enhances women's economic security, and promotes their participation in decisionmaking, driving sustainable development and inclusive growth.
